School Board Meeting News

Each month two BHS Seniors are selected by the teachers as “Students of the Month”.  The students are identified for their academic and leadership abilities and achievements, but most of all for “making a difference” at Burnet High School.  The students then choose a faculty member that has been a great influence during their time at BHS.  The September Students of the Month are Lauren Beckwith and Jason Edmondson.  BHS Math Department Teachers Jill Ringstaff and Susan Scott introduced the two Seniors at the September 15th School Board meeting speaking of their talents both inside and outside of the classroom.  Read all of the news from the August Board meeting here.
Former Bulldog Fan Ramsey Clinton Honored

On May 24, 2014 the Burnet community lost one of its beloved citizens, and the Burnet Bulldogs lost one of its biggest fans- Ramsey Clinton.  There was not a Friday night that went by in the past 65 years when Ramsey was not rooting on the Bulldogs and sitting in his familiar seat in Section 3, Row 13. Ramsey and his wife Emmy raised three BHS graduates and have always had a deep affection for Burnet schools.
Before the football game on Friday, September 12th, Athletic Director Kurt Jones and Superintendent of Schools Keith McBurnett proudly presented the Clinton Family with a brick in Ramsey’s honor. The brick which reads, “Ramsey Clinton loved the Bulldogs,” will be placed in the Honor Walk at Bulldog stadium.

Enterovirus 68
As you may have seen in the news, there is a rare virus suspected of sickening children across 10 states that starts out like the common cold but quickly evolves into something much more serious. The virus, known as enterovirus 68, is similar to the rhinovirus that causes the common cold, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But unlike a cold, the infection can lead to severe respiratory symptoms like wheezing.

We do not have any confirmed cases of enterovirus 68 in Burnet CISD, but the District Leadership Team met this morning to discuss the District’s response to the possibility of the virus. Custodial staff have been reminded to clean frequently-touched surfaces as part of their daily protocol and to ensure that hand sanitizer stations are stocked. In addition, any staff member may request cleaning supplies if they want to more frequently wipe down surfaces in their classroom.

Tips for preventing the spread of the virus include:
•      washing hands thoroughly and often
•      avoiding close contact with people who are sick
•      disinfecting frequently-touched surfaces
•      staying home when feeling sick
•      not sharing drinks or food with others
Board Calls for Bond Election

At the August 18th School Board Meeting, The BCISD Board of Trustees called for a Bond Election to be held on November 4, 2014.  The District has developed an informational website for the 2014 Bond.  You can access the website from the green side link on this page entitled "Bond Information".
